Vic, Sea Operation Manager, Hong Kong
I live on Tsing Yi, an island just off Hong Kong. I’ve never lived outside of Hong Kong. Located between the city and the international airport, Tsing Yi is an important logistics center with several container terminals. Using public transportation, I can reach the office from my apartment in just 40 minutes. I have been working in the forwarding and logistics industry for 15 years, and am now a Sea Operation Manager and Commercial Management Assistant for the Gebrüder Weiss branch in Hong Kong. If I could live anywhere, I might opt for Northern Europe. The countries there regularly rank among the three happiest in the world. That said, Hong Kong too has changed a lot since the end of the colonial era. Life is definitely less of a struggle than it was for my parents; they worked hard to create the best possible home for our family. I always have a few proverbs on hand to motivate me when the going gets tough, like “磨杵成”. Literally translated this means “Endurance grinds the steel beam into a needle”. And “失敗是成功之母”: “Failure is the mother of all success.” The point is to think positively.
