Is anything still actually working?
If you’re in the business of supply chains, markets, and global interconnection, you’ll be familiar with terms like bottlenecks, uncertainty, and our old friend disruption. Rare are the conversations in the logistics world that pass without talk of disruption – and there are good reasons why. Global dependencies, political tensions, technological upheavals, and environmental challenges are casting doubt on established processes. And yes, some things have gone – nay, careered – off the rails.
But that’s not the whole story. Goods are arriving at their destination, processes are running, partnerships are holding steady; systems are adapting, repairing and updating. Issue 25 of ATLAS is dedicated to this side of the coin. Yes, some parts of life are glitching furiously, but wherever you look there are also people working to keep the show on the road – in terms of both day-to-day operations and the development of new struc-tures. One example of the latter is at Gebrüder Weiss’s state-of-the-art logistics and IT center in Vorarlberg, Austria, where work is starting as we speak. That also deserves recognition.
So we’ve handed over the center articles of this issue to everyday things and processes that function reliably. Backing them up are reflections from customers about what makes for successful products, good collaborations, and enduring trust. As you click through this issue of ATLAS, maybe your mind will be drawn to things in your own life that do their job really rather proficiently. Perhaps lingering on these beacons of success will bolster your reserves of hope. There’s a great deal of change and disruption in the world right now, no question. But, regardless, a lot of things are working amazingly well.
