Tarpaulins

Truck tarpaulins are robust, durable fabrics made from tear-resistant synthetic fibers. They are secured with metal eyelets and hooks or even zippers. The tarpaulin surface is coated to provide protection against wind, water and sunlight. Tarpaulins can withstand extreme temperatures from -40° C up to around 70° C (-40° F to approximately 160° F). Despite the typically demanding conditions in the logistics business, a truck tarpaulin may be expected to last for at least ten years. Specialist companies can repair any minor damage that occurs in the meantime, while faded tarpaulins can be recolored. And even old truck tarpaulins can be put to good use. Recycled truck tarpaulin bags like those made by Gebrüder Weiss customer FREITAG are sold all over the world.

Truck drivers aren’t big fans of tarpaulins because it’s harder to access the cargo space than in a box truck, where you just have to open the doors. But they have one key advantage: trucks with tarpaulins can also be loaded from the side, which is important for goods over four meters (approximately 13 feet) in length.
